By looking at this painting, one would probably not imagine that the painting was a result of the artist missing her mother and father.
I had just returned home after a wonderful family gathering with my Mom’s side of the family. My mother suffers from dementia and lives in a nursing home. I took her to Niverville to see her siblings and family, celebrate birthdays and share memories. She was not able to share memories, so I shared for her.
The event flooded my mind with memories about my father (deceased for over 20 years), my mother herself (remembering her the way she was before this horrible disease took over) and even my favourite cat, Simon, who died many years ago.
I needed to paint something to vent the memories & emotions, and “Blow Off” is the result. When my husband Darrell first saw it as I was working on it, he chuckled. He knows I like to vent with my paintbrush, but the subject matter just didn’t jive with recent events!
(The young man in the painting is from a photo I found on the internet.)
