I wanted to create a painting in honour of a friend that I strongly admire. One of Judy’s greatest pleasures is her flower garden, so I decided to call the painting Judy’s Garden, and work from there.
With no direct plan in mind, I wrote the title on the canvas, and then began adding graffiti-like words to describe Judy’s character. When the canvas was solid with words and colour, I collaged different sizes of the same words in a random fashion that ended up looking like something growing.
After some additional layers of granular texture and colour, we have the final painting.
It is a fitting tribute to a life sown with heartache, pain and trouble, from which grew fruit of beauty, encouragement and joy.
