Painting the “Refuge”

My new favourite style of  painting is word collage freestyle.

I collage computer printed copies of hand-written words or poetry onto a painted canvas or surface, and add colour in assorted new ways, including using a palette knife, plastic bags, feathers and even paint brushes!

For Refuge, I used names from the Bible that describe God.  The words in the painting are not obvious unless one takes a close look at the original painting. The parallel is that underneath the turmoil of our lives, God is our Refuge.

Other paintings in word collage freestyle: Sanctus the Heart, Orcadian Mist, Saying the Names -Malcolm Guite, Triune Poet TwoTriune Poet Three and Judy’s Garden.

For details on the word collage freestyle painting process, see Faye’s Blog, Creating Judy’s Garden.

I will have these paintings available for viewing and for purchase at the Art Expo 2012, Oct. 26-28 at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg, MB. To view the Expo website, click here.
