The painting “Lovely Ones” has a special place in my heart.
A photo of some girls dancing at a wedding reception inspired me to paint one day, and halfway into the work, I discovered that this was not going to be about a wedding, but about heaven. So many children die due to miscarriage, abortion, accidental death and disease. It’s sad to think about, but happy to realize that these very children are dancing and playing in heaven, in anticipation for the great reunion with their parents and families.
This popular painting has brought emotion to many viewers, but over the years, the original has never sold. So it will be on the walls of the MHC Gallery (CMU Campus, 600 Shaftesbury Blvd in Winnipeg) from Sept. 28th to Nov. 10th. The gallery is celebrating 20 years of exhibitions, and will be featuring 60 artists who have shown there over the years.
I hope you can make it out to see the showing!
