Diana Pavlac Glyer’s book called Bandersnatch offers an inside look at the Inklings of Oxford—and a seat at their table at The Eagle and Child pub. It shows how encouragement and criticism made all the difference in The Lord of the Rings, the Chronicles of Narnia, and dozens of other books written by the members of this literary circle. Beautiful pen and ink illustrations are included on the cover and inside the book, by James A. Owen.
I entered this painting into the Showcase Gallery at Art Expo for 2016, and the theme was “Masquerade”. After reading the book, I thought that a bandersnatch painting would be very appropriate, and I could paint my own version of Owen’s creature disguised in the detail of the painting.
Some may find the creature right away, and some may not. 🙂
