Malcolm Guite’s Visit to Winnipeg

Recently, the subject of three of my portraits visited Winnipeg, and I was privileged to introduce him to the portraits in person. What a thrill for me!

My boss, Steve Bell, brought Malcolm to the Raft Studio (where my art was showing) one afternoon, and we posed together with the portraits.

Later in the week, Malcolm and Steve performed together at the West End Cultural Centre, SONG & SONNET, a magical evening of poetry and music. It took my breath away when at the concert, Malcolm dedicated and read the sonnet, “Saying the Names” to me.

The third painting, Saying the Names is traveling back to England with Malcolm as a thank you for allowing me to paint him.

During the visit I found myself staring at him a lot, and he joked that I probably knew his face better than he did…

Special thanks goes to Steve Bell for his support and mentoring influence on my art. You can find more info about him and his music at stevebell.com.
